Advocacy Volunteers

      There is no special experience required to become a Child Advocate, and our volunteers come from all backgrounds and walks of life. As part of their 40 hours of initial training (supplemented by court observation), advocates will be educated in:

  • Courtroom Procedure
  • Social Services
  • The Juvenile Justice System
  • Special Needs of Children Victimized by Abuse & Neglect

The basic characteristics required of a Child Advocate are:

  • A commitment to children
  • Good communication skills
  • Objectivity & Responsibility
  • The ability to talk with all kinds of people, some of whom will be dealing with difficult issues
  • Between 5-10 hours per month to dedicate to the program
  • 21 years of ageAdvocacy Volunteers

How does the process work?

  • Submit an application (click here)
  • Complete interview and screening process
  • Pass a background check
  • Complete training requirements (All training programs are taught by experienced trainers who provide valuable information to meet a variety of learning styles)
 

The Peacemaker Program, Inc. provides a continuum of services including skill development, dispute resolution programs and child advocacy services through the use of carefully trained volunteers.
